Error 92X Service fuser errorThe role of the fuser in a laser printer is to melt the toner and bake it onto the page. Lexmark monochrome printers usually heat the paper to around 180 degrees Celsius. In the fuser, the paper is fed between two rollers: the top roller is heated and the bottom roller serves to press the paper against the top roller. As the paper passes between the two rollers, the toner on the top surface of the paper is melted and fixed (baked) onto the paper. The upper roller (hot roller) is heated by a halogen lammp which is mounted inside the roller. The temperature of the fuser is regulated by a thermistor which monitors the temperature of the hot roller. The fuser is a regular maintenance item that falls due for replacement every 250,000 to 300,000 pages, depending on the model. You can see a photograph of a typical Lexmark A4 fuser (Lexmark T522) and its principal components if you click here A 92X Service fuser error usually indicates a malfunction in the fuser itself rather than in other printer components. The most common fuser error in a Lexmark S or T series laser printer is a 922 Service fuser error indicating that the fuser is not getting hot enough. This usually happens if the heating lamp has failed or is not making good contact with the electrical circuit. More often than not, other components in the fuser will also need replacing. You may book a service call or you may choose to remove the fuser yourself and install a replacement exchange fuser unit. We sell rebuilt exchange fusers for most Lexmark A4 monochrome printers for $250 plus GST and freight. Alternatively, you can remove your fuser and send it to us for repair / rebuilding. This can be a cheaper option if there is only a minor problem with the fuser: we will charge you $50 plus parts to overhaul your own fuser. You will find a parts diagram of a typical Lexmark A4 fuser (Lexmark T614) here . There are some differences between models but the basic design is similar. If you would like to overhaul your own fuser, we will be pleased to supply you with whatever parts and assistance you may require. Some components in some Lexmark A4 fusers are more expensive than others as good quality after-market parts are not always available. When we overhaul a fuser, we always replace the hot roller, pressure roller, thermistor and bearings and other parts as necessary. We often replace the gears, bushes, heating lamp, detack assembly and the fuser exit rollers. |
Lexmark gives the following list of all fuser errors and recommends what action you should take (Lexmark Knowledge Base). that the fuser unit failed to reach the standby temperature.
- If this is the first time you have seen the error, turn the printer off and on. Leave the printer off for at least 10 seconds before turning it back on. This gives the printer's engine board a chance to reset.
- If this is an intermittent error, you may want to check how the printer is plugged in, even if it has worked on this surge device for months. Make sure the printer is plugged straight to the wall and not through a surge device or power strip. Power strips and uninterrupted power supplies can cause a low amperage problem in your printer which can trigger a false fuser error.
- If this does not help or if this error appears every time the printer is powered on, you will probably need service on the machine.

- Locate the rear door and open it. The rear door opens and drops down towards you.
- Look into the back of the printer. See if there is any paper or any other item stuck there that could be causing the fuser unit to overheat.
- If you cannot find anything jammed up or broken in the back of the printer, open the upper front cover of the printer and remove the toner cartridge. Look into the printer from the front. See if you can see anything jammed into the back area of the printer. If nothing appears to be jammed in the printer, the fuser unit or the main power supply of the printer will probably nee to be replaced to fix this problem.
- If this is the first time you have seen the error, turn the printer off and on.
- turn the printer back on WITHOUT these options installed. If the 954 error returns, the printer will probably need service.
- If this does not clear up the fuser error, the problem may be in one of the following:
- the fuser cover assembly (thermistor or thermofuse)
- the engine board
- the DC fuser cable
- the fuser control board
- If the 954 error returns as soon as you reinstall an option, that option is causing the error.
- Remove the option. Turn off the printer and reinstall the option.
- If the 954 error. is gone, the option may have been loose and simply needed to be reseated. Again, keep an eye on the printer for the next day or two to see if the error returns. If not, the printer should be fine.
These parts need to be checked out by a service technician and replaced as necessary.
- If this error appears shortly after the fuser unit in the printer is replaced, put the old fuser unit back in.
If the error message goes away with the old fuser unit, please check that the new fuser unit is the correct one for this printer model. - If the printer has not recently had its fuser replaced, plug the printer directly into a wall outlet. Surge protectors and power strips can sometimes regulate the voltage to a fault for the printer. If the printer is already on a wall outlet, plugging the printer into a different outlet may solve the problem. Keep in mind that there is no need to have the printer connected to a computer during testing for a fuser error as any pages to test the functionality of the printer can be processed internally.
- If you have tried the printer on other wall outlets and the 925 Fuser Error still appears, the printer will require service to clear the message.
